J. David Smith is a health club consultant and the owner / operator of AFC Promotions and Atomic Marketing. He has been a Dallas resident since 1964 and has owned a successful business here since 1989. Dave’s father owned and operated a chain of health clubs in the Austin, San Antonio and El Paso areas when he was growing up. He later went to work for his father in sales and quickly became the top producer of out six locations.
After the sale of his father’s facilities, he went to work for Bally’s Total Fitness as a sales consultant. He was quickly promoted to Manager and won numerous awards for his outstanding performance! When this position was no longer challenging and left no room for growth, he decided to start his own consulting business in 1989.
As the owner of AFC Promotions and Atomic Marketing, his responsibilities included organizing, implementing and managing sales and marketing campaigns for over 165 Health Clubs and Fitness Centers to date. His clients fall into two categories: Pre-Sale and Existing Operations.
Pre-Sale clients require expertise in determining location site, design, and finish out, equipment purchases, class and exercise program implementations, hiring and training of staff, but most importantly, sales and marketing both prior to and after opening. These projects range from 90 – 180 days in length. Dave has successfully completed 41 projects of this type with an average of $450,000 in sales per location!
Existing Facilities require a complete takeover of their sales and marketing department. After completing the demographic research, an aggressive marketing campaign is implemented with the methods determined to be the most profitable to the client The various types of programs include, but are not limited to: Direct Mail, Print Media, Telemarketing, Lead Boxes, Radio and Television. A highly trained and qualified sales team is provided with an average closing ratio of 80%. These projects range from 60 – 90 days in length. Dave has successfully completed 134 existing facilities with an average of $275,000 in sales per location.
